Timothy Dunphy kommer fra et utraditionelt arbejderhjem i Pawtucket Rhode Island. Moren er død, faren tager gerne et spil kort og en øl med vennerne og Timothys lillebror er en gæv gut i kørestol. De har ovenikøbet en hund med tre ben. Desværre er Tim og hans venner lidt for glade for hash og øl og en dag går det galt. Han kører ind i en parkeret politibil og så bliver der taget affære. Tim bliver sendt afsted til en snobbet kostskole for at blive afrettet. Men selv på de fineste skoler findes der hash, øl, lækre babes og 100 måder at komme galt afsted på.
