Livet er ikke lutter lagkage for Z, en lille arbejdermyre med nogle meget store ideer, hvis chancer for at vinde den smukke prinsesse Bala bogstaveligt talt er en til en million. Men da Z overtaler sin ven hærmyren til at bytte plads med ham, tager hans liv en vild drejning. Fra hans kampe i termitkrigen til hans jagt efter insektopia ender hans eventyr i en sidste konfrontation med den nådesløse general Mandible, som har planer om at likvidere hele kolonien.
